NEW REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS FOR FINTECH AGENTS BY THE CORPORATE AFFAIRS COMMISSION (CAC)

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has directed that all categories of fintech agents, including sole agents, super agents and point-of-sale (POS) agents, register on or before July 7th, 2024.
To ease compliance with this directive, the CAC has deployed several registration platforms:
Registration through Accredited Agents:

CAC-accredited agents, such as lawyers, chartered accountants and chartered secretaries, can assist you with:
Selecting and reserving a business name with the CAC.
Registering your business, submitting necessary details, and providing you with your electronic business registration documents.
Registration via CAC Designated Channel:

Access and download the business registration form from the CAC portal (https://www.cac.gov.ng/).
Pay the required statutory fee via the Remita platform, a secure payment gateway, using the generated payment channel provided by the CAC.
Scan and upload the following documents in PDF format to quickservice@cac.gov.ng:
The completed registration form
Payment receipt
Passport-sized photograph
A scanned, valid means of identification for the business owner
Note: The CAC may alter your proposed name to ensure approval. To increase the chance of retaining your preferred name, consider using an accredited agent.
Self-registration via the CAC Portal:

Register for an account on the CAC portal (https://www.cac.gov.ng/). Upon registration, the CAC will recognize you as a business proprietor.
Complete the business registration process, from name reservation to registration, directly on the portal without sending documents via email.
The CAC will send a notification for approval to your registered email. You can then download your registration documents from the portal.
Liaising with Fintech Institutions:

Some fintech institutions, such as Moniepoint Nigeria and OPay etc offer registration through API integrations on the CAC portal. This is certainly not an exhaustive list.
API integrations allow applications to talk to each other. Imagine you have an app for your bank or financial institution: an API integration would let the app work to enable you to potentially complete your business registration directly on your device.
